In 1716, after the death of Dorothy Brownlow, Anne Brett (Dorothy's younger sister) and Sir John Brownlow, bart., son of Sir William, joined in a sale to Henry Cliffe, an East India captain, who entailed it by will on his two sons successively.

The elder Richard died a bachelor; Henry the younger inherited. Henry Cliffe, Esq. died in 1761, leaving one daughter, Margaretta Eleanora, on whom the manor and estate were entailed. Margaretta Eleanora married Thomas Hatch, Esq. of New Windsor in 1785. Thomas Hatch then became lord of the manor in right of his wife. Thomas Hatch died in 1822.
