The Friends of St Nicholas Churchyard have launched a major fundraising campaign to protect one of Sutton’s most striking pieces of historic stained glass, the Good Samaritan Window at St Nicholas Church.
Our target is £40,000.
The South Aisle Western Gable which surrounds the window is deteriorating. The wall is crumbling, flints are beginning to come loose and the stonework around the window needs urgent repair. As that work is carried out, the stained glass itself will also need specialist protection.
That is why this is about more than repairing part of a church building. The window connects us with Sutton’s people, its Victorian craftsmanship and the history of the town itself.
The inscription on the window says “Charity Never Faileth.” More than a century later, we hope the community will help us ensure that neither does our commitment to preserving Sutton’s heritage.Take a look at our infographic to discover more about the window, why the work is urgent and why we believe it deserves to be saved.
Heritage is everyone’s.
