The meeting reported on events that included the successful litter-picking campaigns during Lent, a memorable Easter Egg Hunt with the Mothers' Union, and a thought-provoking talk by Jeff Richards titled "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."
The FSNCY is liaising with idverde (the council contractor) to encourage the growth of wildflowers in the churchyard while maintaining clear sightlines. Measures to address low branches obstructing visibility and the presence of rats in the churchyard were also discussed.
The meeting touched upon the progress of the treasurer handover to Chris Cann from Jeff Richards. The organization's current balance was reported, indicating a stable financial standing. Grant funding applications were also discussed, with successful outcomes from the Community Fund and local funding applications, securing financial support for upcoming initiatives.
A Funday and Sale in the Churchyard, organized in collaboration with the Mothers' Union, was scheduled for July 15, 2023. This will be a family-friendly event. Talks and Walks will continue to delve into the history of St Nicholas Church and Sutton,
Several ideas were proposed during the meeting to enhance the churchyard and its surroundings. Possible projects include improved lighting, alleyway murals, and the repair of walls and boundaries. The committee discussed the potential benefits of these initiatives, aiming to enhance public access, safety, and the overall environment. Potential funding sources for these projects were identified.
