Alleyway mural painting starts 14th September

Our friends, community artists, Team Imagineers, are repainting the mural that runs from St Nicholas Churchyard to Robin Hood Lane using designs created by local community groups.  Are you ready to join in the painting marathon? Sutton's biggest mural, 47 metres, painting starts on the 14th of September. You can just turn up on the day, but they would appreciate it if you register, the more good painters they have the better! Gardening day - 31st August 2024

The Friends of the Dr George Rice Community Garden are preparing for the return of the students to the Community Garden for work-based learning as the new academic year starts.  They have a volunteer working party next Saturday 31st August.  They plan to open up the second half of the garden for school and college use.  Jobs will range from using hand saws and branch lopping to using secateurs to snip vegetation and fill waste bags.  You can use the benches for work if you are not very mobile and if gardening is not your cup of tea, then you could always make cups of tea!  If you are interested then, please contact Jeff at jeff@suttonfx.com

The times are 9:30 am to 1 pm, Saturday 31st August 2024 at the Dr George Rice Community Garden, Gibson Road, Sutton, SM1 2RF.

Away From It All (AFIA) is a Mothers' Union holiday scheme, to give the opportunity of a break to those who may be experiencing stress or difficulties in their family life.
Families can spend time together away from their stressful situations at home, engage in activities together and have fun. They often experience healing in their relationships by spending quality time with each other.

The team produced a mini fete with traditional stalls & games including Lucky Dip, Jewellery, Tombola, Nerf Gun Shooting Gallery, Plant stall, and Hook a Duck.

The Queen is coming to St Nicholas

The Friends of St Nicholas Churchyard is delighted to announce their new exhibition about the work of local artist Dennis Huntley.

The exhibition at St Nicholas church will run from 11th June to 20th June 2024.  It will be open daily between noon and 2 pm, then 4 pm to 6 pm.

Dennis Huntley (1928 - 2021) was a British sculptor, furniture designer and author. A Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors completed works for cathedrals, individual collectors and other organisations. Among his most notable works are his sculptures for Guildford Cathedral.

Dennis was a former tutor at Sutton College and this exhibition features his Oscar Beit-winning statue of Anne Boleyn and his impressive nave altar designed for St Nicholas.

The Friends of St Nicholas Churchyard thank Sutton Housing Partnership for the loan of the statue of Anne Boleyn. This is the first opportunity for members of the public to view "Annie" since her restoration. Preparations are being made for her return to Carshalton.

We thank Premier Relocations for enabling the display of the statue of Anne Boleyn within St Nicholas Church.
